Even if you have an excellent iron or steam generator, you can still improve your ironing by getting rid of limescale. If you want perfect and (almost) effortless ironing, watch your water!
The water you use is key
Depending on where you live, your water supply will contain more or less calcium deposits – the source of limescale. If your tap water is particularly hard (high in minerals), you’re best using demineralised water, or a half-and-half mixture of tap water and demineralised water. Otherwise, the resulting limescale will clog up your iron, making ironing hard work, and leaving your fabrics hard and rough.
If you have an iron or steam generator with a filter, you’ll need to clean it regularly. One exception: some models have an integrated self-cleaning system that does it all for you. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on maintaining your iron and eliminating limescale. Your fabrics will love you for it, and so will your family!
