Tefal: How it all began

You love your Tefal pans – they allow you to cook whatever you like and they never let you down. While your Tefal appliances mean that you can organise fun lunch and dinner parties around a fondue, plancha or raclette. Tefal has been a household name for many years, but do you know how it all began?

Created in 1954

The Tefal story began in 1954, when French engineer Marc Grégoire had the brainwave of creating a new non-stick coating, thereby inventing the first non-stick pan! But it’s doubtless thanks to a chance event that Tefal suddenly became hugely popular in the US.  Just seven years after the brand’s launch, Jackie Kennedy was photographed emerging from a shop holding… a Tefal pan! Within a month, nearly a million orders had been placed!

Some of the world’s best-loved inventions

Since then, Tefal hasn’t stopped inventing, innovating and responding to its customers’ needs. Since 1970, Tefal has launched a range of appliances, including grills, raclettes and fondue sets, as well as its famous waffle maker. And then there are all of Tefal’s exciting inventions, such as the Clipso pressure cooker, with its one-handed opening, the Thermo-Spot to ensure perfectly-cooked meat, plus environmentally-friendly products such as the Natura range made from 100% recycled aluminium.
